Sohbet (pronounced ‘sockbet’) means association and refers to association with the sheikh or guide. It is a time when Sufis gather in the company of their sheikh to perform a variety of activities.
In Sohbet, it is not so much the activity that is critical, but more importantly, both the explicit and subtle teaching that arises from observing the sheikh’s example and submitting to the influence of his or her barakat or energy.
